Turn Your Used Bourbon Bottle Into a Tiki Torch
Have you ever wondered what to do with those bourbon bottles that have been fully enjoyed and sitting around empty? You could just throw them in the recycle bin, but how about something a little more fun.? Let’s repurpose your favorite bourbon bottle into a tiki torch that will add character to your backyard. You will be able to enjoy your favorite bourbon bottle in a whole new way for years to come. If you don’t have an empty one sitting around, then first, buy a cool looking bottle of bourbon. One you would enjoy seeing displayed.
Then open and drink it with friends, which in my opinion is the best part of this entire project.
Create Tiki Torches From Used Bourbon Bottles
Make your own unique Tiki Torches from one of your used bourbon bottles. It is not too difficult and you can continue to enjoy your bourbon bottle for years to come. The first thing you have to do is buy a cool looking bottle of bourbon. One you would enjoy seeing displayed.
Then open and drink it with friends, which in my opinion is the best part of this entire project.
Materials
- Supplies needed:
- Empty bourbon bottle:
- Bottle TikiTouch kit: Wick, metal sleeve, rubber gaskets, metal wick cover.(Amazon sells this kit)
- Crushed fire pit glass: Several colors to choose from. I like the Amber color. (Home Depot)
- Gloves: don’t want to cut your hands on the glass.
- Funnel: This will help work the glass into the bottle.
- Bottle of citronella:
Tools
- Gloves
- Funnel
- Scissors
Instructions
Step 1: Measure the wick Insert the wick all the way into the bottle. Leave 1 ½ inch out the top. Trim if needed. Remove and set to the side.
Step 2: Determine what metal sleeve and gasket you will use to secure it to the top of the bottle. Remove and set to the side.
Step 3: Using gloves and the funnel, fill the bottle half way with the glass of your choice. Some of the larger pieces you will need to toss in by hand.
Step 4: Insert the wick at this time, by tipping the bottle side to side while simultaneously working the wick to the bottle of the bottle. This can be tedious and will take some finessing.
Step 5: Continue filling the glass into the bottle around the wick until you’ve reached your desired level.
Step 6: Finally fill the bottle with citronella, attach the sleeve to the bottle top, hook the cap onto the bottle neck, and then light it up and enjoy.
Notes
This project is not lengthy, it all depends on how quickly you can fill the bottle with the glass pieces. Some people use sand to fill the bottle, however I prefer the copper colored crushed glass for a more authentic bourbon look.
